Not at a MiCamp? If your school camp is hosted elsewhere in the Taupō region, and your venue has similar facilities, we can discuss bringing the sessions to you.
If your venue has very basic facilities, our 'Night Sky Tour only' option is also something we're happy to discuss.
Choose one of the following topics:
Solar System: The characteristics of the sun and planets, their motions, and distances between them
Space Exploration: What is space and how we get there, humans in space and/or robotic explorers
Matariki: Māori New Year, calendar keeping & seasons, significant constellations, stars & star colours, meanings behind the Matariki stars, introduction to the maramataka, and navigation
In addition to one of the above topics:
MiCamp Taupō site:
We will spend time (weather permitting) at our "Pipe Henge" - not just a climbing frame! If the weather is not co-operative, your tamariki will enjoy an entertaining science demonstration.
MiCamp Whakamaru site:
Your tamariki will enjoy an entertaining and interactive science demonstration.
Presentation
Choose one of the daytime presentations (different from your day choice)
Night Sky Tour/Science Demo
Weather permitting, you will then enjoy a guided laser pointer tour of the stars, constellations, planets and other celestial objects on display in our beautiful night sky. Depending on the size of your group we may be able to include telescope viewing (enquiries are welcome).
If the weather is not co-operative, we will roll out another of our entertaining science demonstrations.
Max two hours
